Nearly 40% of U.S. trash is paper. American's do recycle about 30% of their paper.

Let's do better, just think about it

Can you put your veggie scraps in your yard waste bin? In some areas you can, check with your local waste collection center

Natural Organic Clothing

Organic Clothing

You can help contribute to a healthier green environment and your own personal health by choosing organic clothing. Here at Green Living Central we support organic clothing. Organic clothing comes from fibers which are turned into fabric that is grown or raised without pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals. Purchasing green, organic clothing leads to more sustainable, earth-friendly farming practices. Sales of organic clothing are on the rise and have been for several years. Organic clothing manufacturers are striving to create fashionable clothing, thereby appealing to a wider variety of people. We are starting to see organic clothing in more department stores, from the discount department stores to some high end department stores. People and businesses are going green and you can find out about it here with Green Living Central.net.

In the past, one of the problems was a small range of colors available to the clothing manufacturers. Many of the larger companies have been expanding their product line to include organic clothing. This will help their companies be more environmentally friendly and help with the supply of organic cotton. Lots of green living people like to be colorful in their attire.

Some say that organic clothing is healthier to wear. This makes sense, when you consider the chemicals that go into standard fabric production. There are chemicals used to color the fabric, plus there are chemicals that are used to make the fabrics stiff, these chemicals have to go somewhere. Do they wash out? and if they do then they are polluting your environment through your water supply. Some state that even when the clothing has been washed the chemical residue still remains. Here's another place where we can be greener, organic clothing.

While there is no published USDA evidence that organic clothing is healthier to wear, we can all use some common sense here, the idea that many people with chemical sensitivities can wear it as well as the fact that organic clothing is not saturated with chemicals is enough evidence for many people to choose organic.

Hemp Clothing

We've all heard of hemp, the cannibas sativa plant. Hemp has quite a history in the world, up until the 1920's over eighty percent of textiles were made from hemp. Thankfully hemp is making a comeback. Why did the government take it away? Was it the nylon rope companies? who knows for sure, but before nylon ropes there was hemp and it appears that the hemp ropes lasted much longer than the nylon ropes ~ then.
The hemp plant gives us many great uses, the most useful of them being fiber. Most clothing made from hemp is ethically and ecologically manufactured (this is important here at greenlivingcentral.net). Hemp is normally grown organically (without the use of herbicides, pesticides or other chemicals) making it very eco-friendly. Hemp comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Cannabis is a very fast growing plant and it is happy in many geogarphic zones, thereby making it a rapidly growing renewable resource. From just one acre of land hemp can grow more fiber than an acre of trees ~ VERY GREEN! ~ plus more than three crops per year can be harvested.
Of course it is a great fiber for clothing, hemp can also be used for fiber, paper, medicine and even fuel. Hemp breathes, don't we all want our clothes to breathe? There is no blocking of the energy.
Hemp clothing is weather resistant. It is UV and mold-resistant also. Many hemp clothing consumers wear it like a relaxed linen. Natural fibers feel good against the skin and with each washing hemp gets softer and softer and yes GreenLivingGal likes softness. Also, with a good mix of hemp and other natural fibers you will be seeking them out. Yes, hemp mixes well with other fibers.
By purchasing hemp clothing your should be confident that you are buying a substainably grown product that does not pollute the environment or the people that harvest it.

Hemp clothing is green, cool and fashionable. Check out Hemp Clothing.
